I have a son who was born two months early. The doctors had a list of things for us to do for preparing our home to recieve the little guy who has some lung issues. This is a fairly quiet unit, in comparison to other HEPAs, but is no means silent. I would rate it as a 3 out of 10 for noise, with an average conversation volume being a 5. In my case, it works well, since the NICU is so loud, he got fairly used to a lot of white noise and we were actually warned sometimes these little guys have a harder time when it is too quiet.
In any case, judging by the condition of the filters after a few months of use, I cannot beleive the amount of junk trapped in them. Before that used to just be floating around and settling on the carpet to get kicked up again. I would recommend this to other parents. REVIEWS......
